Concluding Thoughts on Chapter 8

As I got to thinking about courage this week, I was reminded of the simple fact that courage is a choice. We can either choose to let fear control us, or we can choose to trust in the power of God. The path we choose doesn’t just determine the outcome, it also affects our spiritual growth.

Whatever giants we’re facing, whether it’s a daunting task at work, a difficult conversation with a loved one, or simply facing the unknown, it’s natural to feel somewhat anxious or fearful. What we do with that fear, however, is what sets us apart.

As we studied the story of Jacob this week, we saw how he poured out his heart to the Lord. He told God that he was afraid, and he asked for His help. Jacob’s story is a reminder to take our worries to God, and to trust that God has the power and strength to move in the difficult situations we face.

While prayer might help to alleviate fear, it doesn’t always empty our sorrow. Sometimes, we walk away feeling anxious, even after we’ve been down on our knees. Why? Because some days it takes time and patience to fully surrender our fear to The Lord.

The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. It’s our way of showing God that we trust Him and believe in His power to intervene in our lives. Nothing is hopeless in the hands of God. If we want to overcome the enemy, we need to start believing in the power of God, and we need to be persistent in prayer.

By being persistent in prayer, we cultivate a dependence on God. We acknowledge that we can’t do life on our own, and that we need His wisdom to guide us.

By being persistent in prayer, we grow in intimacy with God. We learn to discern His voice, to recognize His presence, and to experience joy in the midst of our trials.

By being persistent in prayer, we find the courage to slay giants and conquer our fear.
