Chapter 1 - The Enemy

In a world filled with the ongoing struggle of trials and temptations, we’re left feeling defenseless at times. It’s as if we’re in a battle—because we are.

Ephesians 6:11-12 (NIV) gives us a powerful directive: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

This Scripture isn’t just ink on paper; it’s a lifeline. It’s a sacred whisper reminding us that we were never meant to battle alone. Spiritual warfare isn’t a sideline, it’s the frontline. When you put on the armor of God, you move from victim to victor.

Our enemy—the devil—prowls like a roaring lion, looking for an opportunity to weaken our resolve and shatter our peace. But we serve a God who not only knows this enemy but has also equipped us with tools to stand strong. He arms us with the shield of faith, the belt of truth, and so much more. When we wear God’s armor, we don His courage. We’re not just shielded; we’re transformed.

As we embark on this study, I pray that this journey will refine your perspective, deepen your faith, and equip you for the spiritual challenges that lie ahead. That we won’t merely read words, but that we’ll embody them. And, that we won’t just talk about the armor; we’ll learn how to wear it, every day.

this week's challenge

This week, take some time to identify a place in your life where you feel most vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes. Maybe it’s doubt, fear, or a specific temptation. Once you’ve identified it, pray for God to armor you specifically in that area. Picture yourself putting on that piece of God’s armor—whether it’s the helmet of salvation to guard your thoughts or the shield of faith to extinguish the fiery arrows. Make it your mission to consciously carry that piece of armor with you throughout the week.

this week's bible verse

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8, NIV)
