The Enemy Can't Claim What Christ Has Redeemed

We’re only two weeks into our Nehemiah study, and already the Lord is using this book to stir something fresh in my heart.

Just the other day, a friend in our study group—Mindy—highlighted a verse that I’d read before, but this time it hit different. It’s in Nehemiah 2:20, right after the mockery and ridicule from Sanballat and Tobiah. Nehemiah responds:

“The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.” —Nehemiah 2:20

Mindy said, “It reminds me that fear, doubt, and sin have no claim on me because I belong to Jesus.”

That truth grabbed hold of me. What it brought to the surface is this: There are some things that simply don’t have a right to speak into your life anymore.

You’ve been claimed.

When you said yes to Jesus, your identity changed. You were sealed. Chosen. Set apart. The enemy lost all legal ground to your heart. And just like Nehemiah stood at the gates and declared that the enemy had no share in the city, you can stand with that same confidence and say:

“Fear—you have no share here.”
“Shame—you have no claim to my future.”
“Sin—you have no historic right over a life that’s been redeemed.”

That kind of authority doesn’t come from hype or emotion. It comes from knowing the truth—and standing on it. Jesus said:

“The prince of this world has no hold over me.” —John 14:30

So when the enemy tries to drag up your past, when your mind floods with fear, or when discouragement knocks on your door, remember this truth:

“He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.” —Colossians 1:13

And with that, you can answer just like Nehemiah did—with confidence in the God of heaven and clarity about who you are.
