Today is day three in the “I’m Thankful for You” marriage challenge. If you don’t have a copy of the day-to-day chart, you can get one here.
I hope you all had fun on day one and two! Yesterday I bought Michael a baseball hat with the Winnipeg Jets Logo on it. He was working late, and so I wrapped the gift and left it on his pillow for him. My teenaged son was upstairs when I was putting the gift on Michael’s pillow, and he asked me about it.
“I’m doing a 15-day challenge,” I said, “to show dad how much I’m thankful for him.”
The look on his face was priceless.
I said, “I bet you wish this was all for you, huh?”
Letting out a big, “Yes!” I knew that little man was giving me a thumbs up.
And you know what? After this, I think I just might do some 7-day challenges for each of my kids.
Some people might call this kind of behaviour sappy, cheesy, or silly. I’m well aware of that. But here’s the thing, there’s nothing silly about going the extra mile to show your husband how much he is loved.
As a matter of fact, Michael and I were downright ridiculous when we were dating and we loved every minute of it. We wrote love notes, bought each other little gifts, played on swing sets, thought of cute names for each other, and did a lot of snuggling. We even had a teddy bear name Mr. Neufeld that watched television with us.
Here’s the thing… Whether we’re silly or serious, the reason it’s important to go the extra mile is to serve one another in love.
I know that making someone breakfast in bed on a Thursday morning might not fit into your schedule. In fact it doesn’t fit into mine. Michael usually wakes up at 5:00 am and his mornings are off to a running start. Tomorrow he has to go in an hour earlier, so giving him breakfast at 4:00 am is off the table for us.
And so I’ve decided to do things just a little differently today.
The idea is to serve, and that’s what I’ll be doing. That’s what I encourage you to do. I’ll be serving in a way that fits into his schedule. I have a little surprise in mind and hopefully I can share that with you tomorrow.
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. – John 13:13-15

Oh I always knew the breakfast in bed would be an issue so I was glad when you added maybe a snack or favourite dessert. I made my beloved a cup cake to celebrate his Mum’s birthday!
I’m taking part in some of the challenges. Today I’m making my husband breakfast before work, not in bed though, as a surprise. Can’t wait ’til he wakes up! 🙂
Awesome! I love it.
I didn’t do breakfast in bed but I DID fix a more elaborate breakfast than usual, even before I saw the complete list, I woke up thinking I wanted to fix biscuits and gravy this morning, something usually reserved for the weekends because of the preparation involved. It was met with a smile and a kiss and he was thrilled to have such a treat on a Thursday morning!
For some reason I have been unable to access Day 2. I see Day 1 and Day 3 but I have yet to be able to get to Day 2. Can you point me in the right direction???? Not sure what I am doing wrong! 🙁
Thanks!
Kristina
I’m sorry. It was labelled a little differently. Sorry about that. Here it is. Day 2 was to gift him a little gift. Anything small as long as it’s gift wrapped:

My husband eats breakfast out every day, so I joined him today and then we had breakfast for supper–something he has wanted for a while. Even cooked eggs from his new chickens!
My husbands schedule varies so I made his favorite meal beef stew, woke up early and made coffee, and I have an idea for a gift but I’m behind. Love the challenge so far and plan to make breakfast for him Sunday morning. He’ll certainly be surprised. He seems to be enjoying all the added attention. I think tonight a fire and hot spiced cider when he gets home and some praise and worship music will be a nice addition.
Sounds like the perfect evening. And I love beef stew too!
Because of our very different work schedules, breakfast in bed is hard to achieve over here. Instead I made his favorite dessert that I haven’t made in a while….Chocolate Chip Cookies. 🙂
Awesome! What a great idea. 😀
