Special Note: This article is part of an intentional home series by Davonne Parks, author of Chaos to Clutter-Free. To view the rest of the articles in this series, go here. {Scripture references in this article are taken from the New American Standard Bible.} One thing I’m asked regularly is how to get kids to do their chores. I avoided answering this question for a long time because chores with kids is tough, especially when the parents (re: me) aren’t perfect at maintaining a clean home, either. But something I’ve learned is that while my kids and I aren’t perfect, we can make progress, and that progress makes a huge…

We may worry someone will be upset with a choice we made, or that we might need an item in the future. So we hold onto things. But, really, when we sort through our children’s belongings and choose what to keep, we’re honoring their space, their…

A Week-by-Week Plan to Managing Your Children’s Bedrooms
Children hate overwhelming messes just as much as we do. And like us, they can pretend not to see it for a long time. I did hear once of a little boy that was very careful…

Nathaniel is down stairs laughing with Brendan while the hum of the dryer offers its steady beat to our tempo of peace. While enjoying this time of rest, I’m reminded of nights quite different from this. Not too long ago–a few months in fact—I was sitting at the dining room table with Nathaniel, while night after night he struggled to multiply and divide equations that challenged his mind. Hunched over the page with sharpened pencil held tight…

How To Truly Hug Your Children
A hug is an exchangeof two hearts entwined forone precious moment in time. Since we found out that my dad was sick with cancer this past year, I won’t leave the house without hugging and kissing my parents. I have come to realize that every minute I have with them is a gift from God. Every hug, every word, every kiss—all gifts that I tuck into the treasure chest of my heart. I cherish their wisdom, their loving kindness, and yes—their touch. We all need physical contact–numerous studies have proved that, and common sense confirms it to be true. “Verbal and physical affection enable a child to learn morality. When…
